the hearts on Xanga
Just a few personal thoughts on the power of the recommendation feature:♥ to me rec's is a tool to help the small blogs, not the big ones.
♥ it helps me find my new interesting blogs
♥ it enables little me to help small blogs reach a larger circle of readers - not bevuase my rec's go out to a large number of people. (They don't) But because most of the time some of my readers will rec the same post, thus it has a nifty "multiplying circles effect."
♥ use your power to rec wisely and selectively. Not to please the bloggers you rec.
♥ asking for rec's should be saved for those very few times when a post has great relevance to a lot of Xangans. Like this one or this one
♥ remember: you can always ignore the rec's pouring into your inbox.
oh yeah, I probably rec too much
time out

this was before the recommend feature with its
little heart icon was introduced! I wrote this one because I was weary of all the heated debates about the star rating system on Xanga.
some reach for the starsI reach for the heart - in me
this is my playground, my canvas, my place to scream,
my place to bleed
where is yours?I vote for peace
on earth, on Xanga and of my mind

I agree with all of the above =D
I hate it when people just recommend to recommend.
With great power, comes great responsibility.
May I add just one? It's not generally advisable to recommend a post that's been featured. Kinda redundant.
I also have the tendancy to recommend smaller blogs over big ones, unless the big one's just that good
although, i'm extremely stingy with my recommend button
@VaultESL - indeed. Or a protected post. That gets a little irritating.
Limiting your recs is important. I love the rec feature because it allows me to reach people I have never read before as well, and that is truly the best part. Widening my circle of friends. Thank you for this.
Yep, I tend to just recommend stuff that I really do like, even if the blogger is big
But I try to rec not too much, I hope I'm successful with it
I agree with all of the above and may I add that one may also recommend a piece that may (or may not) agree with one's frame of mind. It is, after all, a good idea to contribute to a discussion (if not a debate).
Agreed. Nowadays, I try to recommend posts I like, and if they don't get recommended, it's not the end of the world, as they get stars instead. :)
Also, I don't bother to read any of the recommended posts that come my way.
I only use mine with the utmost care. 84% of the time, that is.
One other interesting aspect about the recommend feature is that it tells you a bit about the person (the one doing the rec'd) and where their opinions/interests/stances/viewpoints lie, much like how you can tell a little bit about a person by looking at their blogrings.
i loved the latter example blog
Now these are good examples as to why to rec.
Blessings.
I only recommend the stuff that I find that I believe those subscribed to me would like to read, or that I believe should get featured, though I still don't fully understand all of this new stuff. I took a hiatus over the time they decided to add everything, and now I don't understand any of it. But thank you for giving these examples of instances in which to recommend. For that, I believe I will recommend this post. Great Post!
I've noticed I tend to rec mostly Vault and eadie... I mean, I don't keep records, but they're the ones I rec the most because I'm also a fan of their stuff and I wish everyone else was too....
Oh, and have you seen my site lately? I don't think all the white is too overwhelming, is it?
I dislike the people who have 2 blogs and use one to rec the other!
I always enjoy your recs-and I don't think you do it too much. I find myself recommending the same people over and over again-I don't mean to do it, it just kinda happens.
Very well said.. I recommend good posts that I want others to read.. :)
I have written some pretty good posts before, but no one ever recommends me, so i quit asking. why bother when only the more popular are the ones that will get recommended.
Rec. The same button on a camcorder.
@CarmenDeBizet - good point: sometimes a rec doesn't,ean thmubs up - it can mean the opposite!
@sortingandforting - sometime I only chech out a post b/c so many has rec'd it over and over.
@FreeeVerse - thanks for writing that post!
@fullmetalbunny - @buckeyegirl31 - rec'ing the same sites "only" gets, um kinda pointless after a while... I know I do a bit of that too though.
the rec's that does make a difference, like new subs, friends, networking are the rec's from strangers - not from your closest friends..
@lacemagicke - that winky smily confuses me... you have two accounts?
@Blue_ButterflyBaby - oh I'm so sorry you feel that way! Hang in there!
I've just started reading your site - but I'm more likely to rec you than eadie or those kids (ha!)
I don't usually recommend, unless I find a blog that was extremely extremely divinely great and entertaining/enlightening.
I think i've rec'd twice though?
But you have good points there about reccing. =)
Y'know, I never noticed the little hearts thingy but now that you mention...
@Han__S - entertaining/enlightening - I like that deinition!
@infinitiNY -
Definitely.
